thickening of the skin around the crack / cracks.

visible cracking or splitting of the skin mainly around your heel.

EVALUATION

EXAMINE, PaLPATE, PROBE AND TRIM/THIN NAIL OR TISSUE.

Heel fissures can be also especially harmful if you have diabetes because they can lead to nonhealing foot ulcers.

We will discuss your symptoms and activity as it relates to your condition.

TREATMENT

professionally administered intensive moisturising, using emollients.

DEBRIDE HARD SKIN IN AND AROUND THE CRACK
TO ENABLE THE SKIN TO BE FLEXIBLE, SOFT AND ABLE
TO HELP AID THE REPAIR

Heel cups can be an effective method of supporting the heel, relieving the pressure which gives the fissures the opportunity to heal.

It may be that our practitioners will opt for a combination of treatments specifically tailored to suit the level of severity on a case by case evaluation of the condition.

HARD SKIN

DAN.png

Hard skin, or callus, is caused by frictional forces or a more diffuse pressure area.

Hard skin can often be managed through filing or using a pumice stone and by using a foot moisturiser daily, however callus often requires removing painlessly by a podiatrist with a scalpel.
